Some Awards!

I love getting awards.  I have gotten a few for my other blog Mia Sogni Dolci, which is about my daily doings and my scrapbooking, but I have now gotten my first 2 for my book blog and I'm happy!

This award was given to me by Steph over at Fangs Wands and Fairydust.  She has a beautiful blog that I love to visit.  It has an ethereal quality that is just delightful!

This award was given to me by Julie at Reading Without Restraint.  Julie's blog is wonderful.  I love how it's designed, when I stop by it always puts a smile on my face.  She has done an awesome job with her blog and I am very flattered by her tip of the hat to  me : ) !  I hope my blog looks just as good one day.

Reading Without Restraint”=

The Versatile Blogger award's rules are as follows -

List seven things about yourself and then pass it on to fifteen other bloggers whose blogs you truly enjoy.  I am going to wait just a bit since I've seen this around and I want to make sure I pass it to a blogger who hasn't gotten it.  When I visit the Hop I'll  be sure to find some wonderful ones.

The Stylish blogger Award rules are similar -

List five random things about myself and then pass it on to five bloggers.

I will do this one now since 5 is much easier to do.

In book news I've finished Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews and I loved it!   Well worth reading.  Both Kate and Curran are just great characters.

Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, Book 4)

My dilemma is which book to start next.  #2 in the Queen Betsy series Undead and Unemployed or # 3 in the Outlander series, Voyager.  Oh boy who do I choose?  I just wish I would've loaded # 2 of the In Death series Glory In Death on my kindle since I'm here in N.Y. and I really liked # 1!  Then again since I have a ton of books on my kindle that I haven't read I may just choose something totally different : )  Just call me fickle.

Naked in Death (In Death, Book 1)
Naked In Death
J.D. Robb
Paperback 314 pgs
Berkley

Amazon blurb -

In the very first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Eve Dallas gets involved with Roarke, a suspect in her latest murder case. But passion and seduction have rules all their own.
**********

The story takes place in 2058, it was funny to read about air buses and Jetson like machines that dispense food and droids that bring you your things.  It seems that certain food items have become delicacy's such as coffee, and real sugar.  Life expectancy has definitely been extended one old gentlemen passed at 115 and that was foul play! That was a nice twist on the story to start with.  Robb moves this book at a nice clip not getting too bogged down with the intricacies of when it takes place, she allows her readers to put the pieces together nicely.

Someone is killing Licensed Escorts as prostitutes are now called and Eve has to find the killer.  The 1st victim was a U.S. Senator's granddaughter and she has her work cut out for her since a note has been left saying One Of Six.

Lt. Eve Dallas is a wonderful character.  She is guarded in her emotions, afraid to let herself feel, which is understandable as a cop, but also to shield herself from a painful past.  Strong, emotionally and physically, witty and smart.  I really like that about her, she isn't a fake or forced sounding character.

The side characters are pretty good too.  So far only Captain Feeney, has been touched on, and he's likable as well.  His caring and protective feelings for Eve is evident and he comes to her defense swift and avidly.  Even though he is still a rough outline I like him.  Kind of reminds me of how protective Marino is of Kay Scarpetta, though Feeney doesn't have all the issues that Marino does.    I don't know if any of the other characters are going to become staples yet or not.

Roarke is an Irish immigrant and a self made multi billionaire.  He is strong, smart, tough, handsome, quick and can be as cold as an ice cube.  Somehow Miss Eve has gotten under his skin and he has fallen hook line and sinker for this lady.  You can see he just doesn't know how it's possible, he is blindsided by her, but she has him and he is going to have her.  I think  he is fantastic!  What a great character, he possesses just about all the qualities I love in a male lead, not to mention it describes my hubs a great deal as well ; )

Poor Eve doesn't want to feel anything for him, not just because he is a possible suspect, but because she doesn't want to feel anything for another man.  She doesn't want to be hurt.  Seeing their story unfold, how she tries to protect him, and how he comes to feel for her was just great.  This was just an all around good read.  The suspense of the who done-it was great, it had me trying to figure out who it was, I liked that, not over the top, not to simple.  Robb has crafted a great book and I look forward to reading the rest of this series and learn more about these two wonderful people : )

I give this baby 4 cannoli's without a doubt!!

Naked in Death (In Death, Book 1)

Naked In Death
J.D. Robb
Paperback 314 pgs
Berkley

I know it's 3 sentences, but it needed the 3 to be complete : ), I am sure I will finish this book by today.  Let me say, I love it!!  I have had the In Death Series sitting in e-book format for at least 7 mos now and am kicking myself for not starting it sooner!  This is just a fantastic book by Robb, who I've also read as Roberts but not for years.

I love Eve, she is strong and smart but not that over the top tough where it seems forced and phony.  Roarke, well he is just the cats meow.  I will give a full review once I'm done with it, but if you haven't had some of this yet, go gechaself some!  Well worth it ; )

Covet

Covet (Fallen Angels, Book 1)

Covet
J.R. Ward
Paperback 474 pgs
Signet

From Amazon -

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about-his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charge with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option. Vin DiPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that-until fate intervenes in the form of a tough- talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart-and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

First off, yes it is shy the 500 pgs for my monthly challenge, and even more so since some of those pgs were a sneak peak at Lover Mine!, but that's ok since I've now read 2 books over 400 pgs each ; )

This was a good book.  Ward has done an excellent job of crafting her characters and I really liked them.  Jim Heron, the lead is rough, mysterious, and yet he has a heart and you can't help but warm to him.  I look forward to her others in the series as well.

Watching Vin DiPietro evolve through the story was nice.  Seeing Vin realize there was more to life than his possessions, and that you can love and love deeply was great.  I liked learning a bit about Marie Terese and her life.  What was important to her, what she would do to protect what was hers.

There was enough mystery to keep you going, wondering if everyone was who they presented themselves to be.  A little edge of your seat action so you could worry who would be hurt or not.  All in all I  recommend this book.

Whacha Reading (June 11th)

This is a weekly wrap up hosted by moi right here ; )  Just share what you've been reading and what your thoughts are of it.

Covet (Fallen Angels, Book 1)
J.R. Ward
Paperback 496 pgs
Signet

I am really enjoying this book.  I like Jim, the lead.  I'm intrigued by what he has been assigned to do by the angels, as well as his mysterious past.  Vin Di Pietro and his girlfriend Davina have got my attention.  I don't think she's as sweet as she wants Jim to think, and Vin obviously has some secrets.  It's nice to see Marie - Therese here after meeting her in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.  Her storyline is going to get intense, that's obvious.  So far so good, and I will review it when I'm done : )

I want to touch on a point I had made about falling for author's characters.  When an author accomplishes drawing you into the character that they have crafted, they have that extra something as far as writing.  For example, I've read the first two of Cody McFadyen's Smoky Barrett series, and to be honest, I don't really have any like or dislike for any of them.  In book one I felt it was just that the characters were brand new and they'd evolve, but I can't say that that's happened.  It's almost as though he just didn't finish drawing them.  The potential for awesome characters are there but he hasn't quite completed it. While his story was good, what the the killer was going to do next and finding out how it ends kept my attention, Smoky nor any of the rest fazed me.  That is not a good thing, it's for that reason that I haven't rushed to get the other two books in this series.  He just hasn't quite hooked me.  Liking or loving main characters are integral in my opinion.  Chelsea Cain and her Heartsick series has accomplished this hands down.  As demented as Gretchen Lowell is, I want to know what the psycho is going to do, and I can't help but like poor pitiful Archie Sheridan.  Hands down, Miss Charlaine has most definitely done this with her Southern Vampire series.  I have only read Robert Crais' first Elvis Cole book, The Monkey's Raincoat, and not only do I like Elvis, but Joe Pike was a smidgen in it and I can't wait to read his books too!  That is an author with molto di talento.

Now it's your turn, share with us, I'm always on the hunt for a great page turner ; )

I have to say the Warden is not disappointing so far with this book.  It's moving fast for me, I want to know what's up with each of the characters so far, my curiosity is peaked on one of them as to if they are pretending to be all innocent when they aren't.
**********

Ok, I have a Kindle rant about Ward's book Lover Mine and the price on Amazon.  The hardback edition is $10.95.  Now I know having 6 kids has truly sucked my brain cells, but I could've sworn a couple of weeks ago it was $9.95, but what's got me pissed is the fact that the Kindle version is $12.99!!  That is just wrong, no jacket design, no paper, no binding, no cost for the most part.  What the heck?  This is just not fair, I'll order the hardcover, though I would've preferred the Kindle edition since I have most of the series already on it.
