With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows...
*****

Sam's bar - Merlotte's has been firebombed and Sookie caught a glimpse of the being who did it.  While it wasn't damaged very badly, Sam has been seeing a loss in customers due to Vamp Victor, Eric and Pam's new "master" and his new place taking business.  The thought is that because Sam is a shifter that's why it was done.

Meanwhile Eric and her relationship is suffering from some strain since Eric is hiding something from her, to the point of Pam and Eric have a fistfight in Sookie's kitchen because Pam thinks he needs to level with Sookie.  She has also done something with the help of Amelia her witch friend that has changed her and Eric's relationship drastically and infuriated Eric.

Her cousin Claude and great uncle Dermot are still living with her and she is discovering some more Fae tidbits about her life.  She has found a very special trinket her Grandma left hidden that she never got the chance to give to Sookie.

Victor is baiting Eric something fierce, hurting Pam emotionally in the hopes they'll strike out at him and he can then kill them.  Sookie will help them of course, but will the secret Eric is keeping finish Sookie and Eric once and for all?  And was that firebombing really meant for Sam....

Some really funny quotes -

Eric eyed Immanuels coiffure with fascinated disgust.  "This is the one you brought to correct Sookie's hair?"  "Mirium says he's the best I haven't had a haircut in 150 years." Pam said shrugging. "How would I know?"
"Look at him!" - exchange between Eric and Pam over the hairstylist fixing Sookie's burned hair.

"And to  descend a few levels to the carnal, you have a pair of breasts that should win the Miss America Tit Competition, if there was such a thing."  Bill to Sookie.

I liked this book much better than the last.  It wasn't the best one in the series, but I really enjoyed it, there were a couple of pulls on my heartstrings here.  The fact that there is only one more left makes me very sad!
