I enjoyed On The Edge,  # 1 in this series.  I loved the characters, I thought Rose was a wonderful , and Declan was delicious.  I look forward to this second book coming out!

Naked in Death (In Death, Book 1)
Naked In Death
J.D. Robb

Berkley

Amazon blurb -

In the very first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Eve Dallas gets involved with Roarke, a suspect in her latest murder case. But passion and seduction have rules all their own.
**********

The story takes place in 2058, it was funny to read about air buses and Jetson like machines that dispense food and droids that bring you your things.  It seems that certain food items have become delicacy's such as coffee, and real sugar.  Life expectancy has definitely been extended one old gentlemen passed at 115 and that was foul play! That was a nice twist on the story to start with.  Robb moves this book at a nice clip not getting too bogged down with the intricacies of when it takes place, she allows her readers to put the pieces together nicely.

Someone is killing Licensed Escorts as prostitutes are now called and Eve has to find the killer.  The 1st victim was a U.S. Senator's granddaughter and she has her work cut out for her since a note has been left saying One Of Six.

Lt. Eve Dallas is a wonderful character.  She is guarded in her emotions, afraid to let herself feel, which is understandable as a cop, but also to shield herself from a painful past.  Strong, emotionally and physically, witty and smart.  I really like that about her, she isn't a fake or forced sounding character.

The side characters are pretty good too.  So far only Captain Feeney, has been touched on, and he's likable as well.  His caring and protective feelings for Eve is evident and he comes to her defense swift and avidly.  Even though he is still a rough outline I like him.  Kind of reminds me of how protective Marino is of Kay Scarpetta, though Feeney doesn't have all the issues that Marino does.    I don't know if any of the other characters are going to become staples yet or not.

Roarke is an Irish immigrant and a self made multi billionaire.  He is strong, smart, tough, handsome, quick and can be as cold as an ice cube.  Somehow Miss Eve has gotten under his skin and he has fallen hook line and sinker for this lady.  You can see he just doesn't know how it's possible, he is blindsided by her, but she has him and he is going to have her.  I think  he is fantastic!  What a great character, he possesses just about all the qualities I love in a male lead, not to mention it describes my hubs a great deal as well ; )

Poor Eve doesn't want to feel anything for him, not just because he is a possible suspect, but because she doesn't want to feel anything for another man.  She doesn't want to be hurt.  Seeing their story unfold, how she tries to protect him, and how he comes to feel for her was just great.  This was just an all around good read.  The suspense of the who done-it was great, it had me trying to figure out who it was, I liked that, not over the top, not to simple.  Robb has crafted a great book and I look forward to reading the rest of this series and learn more about these two wonderful people : )

I give this baby 4 cannoli's without a doubt!!

  3. Hi Paula!
I'm so thrilled that you found my In Death reading challenge and that you decided to join the fun!!! I'm only up to book 10, but interestingly, I have already gone back and re-read Naked In Death... the story of how Eve and Roarke first meet and start their relationship is just so wonderful and I like to relive it every now and then.
